On Being Chinese in America (Zine)
On Being Chinese in America (Zine)
Original work by Joey Chu.
While I saw case after case of violent attacks on the AAPI community, I felt completely helpless. Other than donating and spreading awareness, I needed to translate my anger and sadness into action.I started drawing as a way to make sense of my own experience as a new immigrant. Doing so led me to reflect on the sentiments behind the illustrations. So I made a zine filled with drawings, anecdotes and stories. It has been a cathartic experience, to say the least. I hope it can shine some light on the immigrant experience, and let you see through my lens a little bit.
